Quantum Communication VII - Quantum Communication vs PostQuantum Cryptography

The basic functionality of QKD has been demonstrated in the context of large (scientific) testbeds. International standards are also available. In the meantime, there are products that work in the normal operational/technical environment. Nevertheless, quantum key distribution (QKD) has so far its limits, especially in terms of range.

Alternatively, many rely on post-quantum cryptography (PQC), which is based on mathematical methods and can therefore only be considered secure temporarily. In contrast to the quantum-based irrefutable physical security of QKD, which can only have weaknesses in the hardware implementation, PQC can only be considered secure depending on the available computing power.

Thus, this tutorial is dedicated to the central topic of “Quantum Communication vs PostQuantum Cryptography” mainly based on the paper by Brauer et al. https://arxiv.org/abs/2311.08038 .
